Volunteer Role Description: Open-Source Intelligence Analyst
Status: Volunteer/Uncompensated (Part-time)

Position
The Volunteer Open-Source Intelligence Analyst role is primarily responsible for conducting passive (non-contact) online information collection and investigative research in support of the National Child Protection Task Force’s (NCPTF) mission. This type of work is often referred to as Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT).
Qualified individuals will use their own systems and experience to locate publicly available online information that may be beneficial to Law Enforcement agencies who are conducting active investigations supported by NCPTF. A strict adherence to confidentiality standards is required to protect the integrity of ongoing investigations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports investigative efforts using open-source intelligence tools and techniques.
- Assists in accessing, gathering, and analysis of information published on social media, websites, and other platforms.
- Documents and preserves digital material in accordance with applicable standards.
- Produces informational intelligence reports consisting of collected information.
Requirements/Prerequisites
- OSINT Training/Certification or 1-3 years of professional experience leveraging OSINT
- Understanding of and experience using publicly available OSINT tools for investigative work
- Proficient in leveraging search engine advanced operators to refine queries
- Proficient in navigating major social media platforms utilizing their own research accounts
- Ability to synthesize and present complex information clearly and concisely
- Demonstrated excellence in both written and spoken English, with the capacity to convey ideas effectively
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience working with confidential and sensitive data
- Excellent working knowledge of the deep and surface web, social media and social networking sites, and OSINT research and Operational Security best practice
- Ability to learn and use NCPTF’s case management platform to contribute to cases
Expectations
- 10+ hours per month of consistent and reliable participation
- Attend Investigations team meetings with regularity
- Demonstrates high moral integrity and ethical standards
